| The Residential Program is designed and operated to assist anyone with a developmental disability to live as independently as possible. The Yates ARC operates IRA's, two in Dundee and two in Penn Yan and a number of Family Care Homes throughout Yates County. Persons are encouraged to have their name placed on the NYS Cares waiting list if they are considering residential placement at any time in the next 2 to 5 years. What is an IRA? IRA stands for Individual Residential Alternative. This is a Medicaid program under the Home and Community Based Waiver. It is a group home where non-related people live together. Staff work in shifts. What Does the Individual Residential Alternative (IRA) Offer? - A safe, comfortable and supportive home with 24 hour supervision
- Training and assistance in learning skills necessary for increased independent living such as:
- Shopping - Cooking - Leisure time skills - Transportation - Money/budgeting/banking - Housekeeping skills - Daily living skills - Scheduling of routine and specialized medical and dental care
What is a Family Care Home? Family Care Providers offer care and support in their own home. Their homes are inspected and certified by OMRDD. They are given regular training and have access to agency staff for administrative and nursing services. Respite is available in Family Care Homes for up to 30 days and often can be provided on an emergency basis. Approved respite providers are also available to provide respite in your home. Who is Eligible? Anyone over the age of 18 who has a developmental disability may be eligible for Family Care or an IRA. |
